Courage is Never a Roar

Courage is Never a Roar

Courage is always unspoken,
though gallant the sounds that would soar.
For bravery travels in silence.
Its melody never a roar.

If Courage would cause a commotion,
announcing the battles it’s won,
the badge would no longer be valid.
Its claim to the title, undone.

A climber at top of the mountain
does not thirst for any applause.
Alone, celebrates this endeavor
for stardom was never his cause.

The bravest proceed on their journey,
accomplishing missions with pride.
Humility utters not whisper
of valor that fosters inside.

While many will boast of their grandeur
and claim many feats as their own.
They speak to the crowds about Courage,
the one thing they never have known.

A hero embraces this honor
yet never hangs medal on door.
Just walks hand in hand with the knowledge
that Courage is never a roar.

Thank you for welcoming me to this community. I was born in Cuba but emigrated with my family to the US when I was three. I am mother to three young adults now, and also a grandmother. I’ve been writing for years, some I share, others I still keep in my personal file. I often write of struggles for we all face them as we journey through life. But still, I feel peace knowing I try my best. Feel blessed to have been given the gift of writing which I strive to improve cause there’s always room for growth. more…

"Courage is Never a Roar" is a beautifully crafted and insightful meditation on the true nature of courage. You've moved beyond the stereotypical image of outward displays of bravado and instead delved into the quiet strength and humility that truly define courage. The poem's gentle tone and clear, resonant message make it both comforting and thought-provoking.

Wow! This is so true! Perfect meter, perfect rhyme, perfectly expressed! The 2nd verse was my favorite: "the badge would no longer be valid", and the penultimate a close second: "the one thing they never have known".

Bravery is never a quest for recognition. It is merely an act that requires the perpetrator to perform without hesitation or personal well-being.

From the start, the title strikes me as a succinct yet powerful idiom for the ages. The rhyme and meter is exquisite; as it strides along gallantly with precision and determinism, conveying it's wisdom within the it's journey of the soul's highest aspiration; courage. This poem holds high a chalice that reflects light that never fades. Masterfully done!
