Well at least they are offering a monetary award this year for the prize. I had to suggest a plaque with the poem of the year on it so I could receive recognition for last years contest. No money was ever offered...I got the plaque about two months later...Congratulations to this years winner, good luck to all...

I figured I'd put a comment here since nobody else will. Good try, keep at it, someday you may possibly receive a runner up coffee cup, or even a miraculous win.

Correct, this poem was meant for others who have lost a loved one, to let them know they are not alone in their tragedies. I love the fact that I am able to make you feel it was real!!

Now THAT, I can believe...and as far as 'what I desired' you got that wrong. I only desire to write the words that can bring forth others emotions...

This poem was one of 12 entered in the poetry.com 'Poem of the Year' contest. The winning poem was actually my other winning entry. The Treehouse. If you want to critique others poetry you should make a simple yea or na, not write a novel on what your feelings are.....

Thank you so much for your critique of my poem. I DO stick to my convictions but seek other ways and means to bring them to mankind...

Cute, is my first thought. This is a fun poem which our divisive world needs
more of. I could read it again, and again, and again...

I awoke this morning, washed my face and got a cup of coffee and my laptop. Voting day was here. I spend the next 3 hours reading all the submissions. Then I pin the ones that tickle my fancy so I may reread them. I chose Mother's Day because the poet did such a marvelous job of portraying and lifting up his mother and all the good fascists of her personalities, The poem had a good flow and rhyme and left me thinking, what a nice job this poet has done...

Thank you for your critique and compliments on my work. You did a thorough job of breaking the poem down and evaluating the rhythem, rhyme, flow and it's ability to make the reader feel the words. Thank you for your professional view...

Fli, first, good morning as I sit here with my coffee and read your poem. Poetry and coffee go well together, and your words flow through my mind as easily as the coffee flows down my throat. I can relate to your words and yes, we all must 'keep going'. And, you must do the same with this talent you have found..

Thank you for your comment on my poem. This was just one of my older poems so I didn't enter it into a monthly contest. I wanted to share it with this great poetic community I have found here...

This is a beautiful yet sad memorial. I could feel the love you held for your mother as well as the sadness she brought you through her vodka, But I don't think it's ever to late for you...Great poem , take your strength from your talent!!

Leslie, I just read your poem 3 times to make sure I was feeling what you were putting to words. This is possibly one of the best poems I've EVER read. You have a way with words that not only tells your thoughts but also relays your feelings...I truly can't wait for your next entry...

This is one of the best poetry sites I've found. To let the poets judge who writes the winning poem is telling everyone that we ARE all poets and have the right to judge, read and critique each others poems.....

Do you ever have a yearly competition where all winners and honorable mentions have a contest at the end of each year like these monthly contests, or is that a possible idea?

Thank you for telling me that. Does it take awhile when was has been submitted before it shows because that's really what I was concerned about...Mine didn't show up till today.

I submitted a poem earlier but it has not been put on the summary page. I believe submitting early gives one a better chance of being read as very few take the time to read all of the submitted poems so being one of the first to join is beneficial.
