THE TREEHOUSE

I finally agreed when he turned eight
To build his ' Castle in the sky'
With wooden steps nailed up the side
Just so he could climb that high.

Four walls, about six feet tall
Although not exactly square
And little windows on every side

Raising Puppies

The doctors said he couldn't live
Just two years, that's all they'd give
Cancer soon would eat his little bones away.

He didn't cry when he lost his hair
But wore that stocking cap everywhere
And only took it off to sleep and pray.

I...

Your Abusers Memoirs...

You always blamed me, it's all my fault
Wondering why I never got taught
I never became what my parents thought
Their man I'm supposed to be.

But you never cared what I went through
You only remember the bad things I do
How can I become...

Seeking Soulmate

I want to come and carry you away
Away from those long lonely nights
I know you're out there waiting for me
To come take away your frights.

We all fear having to live alone
When we have so much to share
We need so bad to care for...

A Poets Prayer

I want so much to write the words
That other eyes may someday read.
If to mankind I can possibly give
Let this wish then be that deed.

Sometimes at night I cannot sleep
The words will occupy my mind.
I know I'll lay awake till morn
Unless I...

Well at least they are offering a monetary award this year for the prize. I had to suggest a plaque with the poem of the year on it so I could receive recognition for last years contest. No money was ever offered...I got the plaque about two months later...Congratulations to this years winner, good luck to all...

I figured I'd put a comment here since nobody else will. Good try, keep at it, someday you may possibly receive a runner up coffee cup, or even a miraculous win.

Correct, this poem was meant for others who have lost a loved one, to let them know they are not alone in their tragedies. I love the fact that I am able to make you feel it was real!!

This poem was one of 12 entered in the poetry.com 'Poem of the Year' contest. The winning poem was actually my other winning entry. The Treehouse. If you want to critique others poetry you should make a simple yea or na, not write a novel on what your feelings are.....

I awoke this morning, washed my face and got a cup of coffee and my laptop. Voting day was here. I spend the next 3 hours reading all the submissions. Then I pin the ones that tickle my fancy so I may reread them. I chose Mother's Day because the poet did such a marvelous job of portraying and lifting up his mother and all the good fascists of her personalities, The poem had a good flow and rhyme and left me thinking, what a nice job this poet has done...

Fli, first, good morning as I sit here with my coffee and read your poem. Poetry and coffee go well together, and your words flow through my mind as easily as the coffee flows down my throat. I can relate to your words and yes, we all must 'keep going'. And, you must do the same with this talent you have found..
