What’s that sound?

What’s that sound of the buzz-buzz-buzzing
Why does it sound like someone’s discussing

Is it me or is there a click-click-clicking
Maybe it’s the sound of me think think thinking

Do you hear the quiet tick-tick-ticking
It sounds like a bomb in my mind and it’s only the beginning

Is it just me or do you hear a rap-a-tap tapping
I think it’s the sound of all my demons laughing

The sound echos all around but the source, I can’t find
It’s almost like the endless sound of a combine

Do you hear the drum beat thump-thump-thumping
It sounds like anxiety is-a-coming

Is it just me or is it getting faster
Headed my way like a natural disaster

Do you hear the yelling voices
It’s making this effort feel so pointless

The sound is violent just like a storm
Or perhaps it may be the reason you were born

Is it just me or is it drawing even closer
Hits me with the ups and downs like a roller coaster

Do you hear the crack-crack-cracking
I don’t know who it is or how they even tracked me

Is it just me or do you hear the creak-creak-creaking
I think it’s just the voices of my fear speaking

The sound has footsteps and cold wafty air
Uh oh, I think I see them watching from right over there

Is it just me or do you hear the crunch-crunch-crunching
Of my feet against the path on which I am running

Do you hear the sound of me huff-huff-huffing
I think it's the noise I make when I fear what I’m becoming

Is it just me or do you hear the whoosh-whoosh-whooshing
I think it’s the people behind as I wonder what they’re doing

Then comes the sound of me trip-trip-tripping
Suddenly it all comes around like a coin flip-flip-flipping

Do you hear the sob-sob-sobbing
I think it’s the sound of humans evolving

Is it just me or is there a hic-hic-hiccup
I think it’s the sound of knowing you’re enough

Do you hear the battles I’m facing every day
Because I know someone out there will tell you it’s okay

The sound erupts into wonder and growth
I think it’s the golden sound of hope

Is it me or is there bum-bum-bumping
I think it’s the sound of my heart loving

Do you hear the cries and praise
I think it’s love, an end to dark days

Is it just me or do you hear the happy
It fills you up and all around so there’s nothing you are lacking

The sound gives hope to all
So when it’s dark, don’t forget to call
