Sisterly Love

Sisterly Love

Chasing people all my life
Part of me wondering if it’s right

Reaching out for the hold of others
But they don’t keep me close like a lover

Seen it lately in the movies
Reminds me of young Katie’s dreams

Begging mom for a sister
Someone younger to be my world

Know it’s not picture perfect
But it’s an aching in my chest

I wanna cry, be open and real
Find me all alone and ask what I feel

Come close to my side
Tell me I don’t need to hide

Intertwine your fingers in mine
Whisper that it will be fine

Hold me as the sobs rack my bones
Be the person who makes me feel at home

We’d have our fights, I’m sure
But it’s better than being the only girl

I wanna tell someone my crush
Look at cute guys and gush

Teach me how to dress
How to have fun and make a mess

Take my clothes, I really don’t care
Teach me how to straighten my hair

Burned myself my first few times
But you were there to remind

Guiding me through the process
Admiring my progress

Watch as I learn to love
When breakups keep me from who I want to become

Listen to my poetry
Look at me intently

When the fights erupt
Creak open my door when anxiety overcomes

Hear my gasps at night
Pushing through my walls with might

Listen to how I call out to God
Remind me I’m never lost

Tell me I’m enough when my dreams don’t work out
Be by my side through my doubts

Walk with me through the park
Look at the stars with me in the dark

Tell me all about yourself
Tell me you are always there if I need help

A sister who lifts me up
A sister who shows love

A sister who holds me when I’m broken
A sister who supports me when my heart is stolen

A sister who points me to God
A sister who is solid

I know time can’t change
And if I get a sister, I’ll wait

All I can do is pray for someone out there
Someone like a sister who cares

Know I’m too old to act young
Wish I had a sister to break me out of my numb

Wish I had someone to fall into
If I had someone like that, it’d be huge

I know it’s not what it’s cracked up to be
But I wish I had a sister in my family
