Unrecognizable

“Unrecognizable” the headline screams
Heckling the latest actress who dares to show her face in public
Code for old, fat, or changed by plastic surgery
How dare she have laugh lines and forehead creases
Or cover those “flaws” with fillers
Look! Her breasts are no longer perky
Look! Her ass is no longer firm
How dare she exist as anything other than an advertisement for sex
When it was ok to treat her as object
Does her sexuality go away because you deem her invisible
How dare you!
How dare you!
She is a Goddess, the Crone,
The wise woman
Screw you! You think a man can age and become “Distinguished”
He can flaunt his younger upgraded darling
And we applaud him
But what about the Crone?
You have forgotten, her grace?
Her knowledge of self that doesn’t give a shit what you think
Her soul is stunning
Polished smooth in places by the sands of time
And jagged in others from heart breaks and trauma
She is beyond beautiful

She is “unrecognizable”

Oh man, this is ragingly profound and rings out a truth undeniable. The irony being that those persecuting these women they deem unfit bear and bare their own hideousness both inside and out. I've always joked saying I get a charge out of women who aren't Angelina Jolie telling me I'm no Brad Pitt. Perhaps those judgements we seek to cast would be best self-directed. As soon as the hand raises to cast the stone, we find ourselves amid our sin. Absolutely LOVE this poem, K.

thanks so much! I know judgement goes both ways. Btw, I’ve never been impressed by Brad Pritt (well except for Legends of the Fall), lol, but not being Brad Pritt is actually a compliment.

YES!!! I LOVE LOVE LOVE Legends of the Fall. Seen it probably 5 times. What a great movie. It's my sister's fave. Been a minute since last seen though. What about Mark Wahlberg, is he attractive or no? I ask because years ago a couple women compared me to him. I took it as a knock, but they assured me he was attractive, at least to them. I wouldn't mind having his paycheck. :-P

And what of you, K - any plastic surgeries? fake boobies? botox? or are you just this naturally glowing and radiant...he says kissassingly. *snort*

I will admit that Mark has an incredible body. I remember seeing in those underwear ads in the 90s, wow! However, I find him icky as a person so he doesn't really do it for me and I did have a bigger crush on his brother Donny back the New Kids days, lol. So resembling him physically is a compliment. Not so much in his beliefs/attitudes.

only Botox a few times but I am way overdue to have it again. Back when I lived in the South I remember hosting a party with 12 women and I realized at some point in the evening when everyone was discussing surgeons that I was the only one without fake boobs. I think the pressure on looks in the South is much more than it is in Cali if you aren't in L.A. I recently met Paulina Porizkova and she told me I had nice skin. I had a fan girl moment. That was the best compliment. I love that on her social media she is totally embracing aging naturally and still being beautiful

I often wonder how my ex-girlfriend Lynda is doing. When she won Miss New Hampshire in 1986 then got into modeling, she hedged so much of her identity on looks that I wonder how it has affected her since she's now pushing up on 60. She was very outgoing when she was younger, but I think much of that had to do with her looks. I'd imagine it could be somewhat of a detriment as the looks start to fade for those who rely so heavily on their appearance. I'd also guess it's different for men than women. I do like being 60 and in better shape than most guys my age, but don't do it for that reason. It's been a way of life for me since I was a teen being that me and my family are athletic. My younger brother now owns our gym and has trained for nearly as long as me, as did my older brother train for decades. Norm, my older brother, still stays fit by walking daily and other exercises. He just has no desire to lift weights anymore for whatever reason. The gym is my #1 lifetime go-to peaceful place that keeps me sane and grounded...and away from botox. Derp! And just so'z ya knowz, I only posted the bicep photo because it suits the name, not out of conceit. Those days are long over. LoL

I love the Jenna Peterson quote “I hate this whole ‘women can be sexy at fifty’ narrative. At what age will society stop demanding I try to be hot and just let me turn into an old swamp witch as nature intended?” That being said, I want to be hot but I don’t want the pressure from society to be hot. Can I have both, lol?

oh and I love the biceps pic. If have/had it, flaunt it. It’s great to keep in shape for your own mental health not to please anyone else. I should start weightlifting. I took a weightlifting class in college and I had to buy new pants because my booty got too big, lol

I'll say this - what I found attractive as a younger man is not necessarily what I find attractive nowadays. I'm on Match.com but have only dated one woman in about ten years and that was 10 years ago. I like to scan the profiles of the ladies just to see what's out there. Women I find attractive now I would never have given a second glance in my younger years. Not to mention the whole "It's what's inside that matters" dealio. A woman with a nice personality, wit, intelligence and core kind nature really gets me. That was Lesley, as well as my friend Dee.

They show themselves to be unspiritual. A spiritual person might understand that this " house" is fading away. But to be fair, I see that in myself many days when seeing something in the media. It can be jarring and stranfe to see people we expect to look good, not look very great, it looks bad. This house can look bad. Can't always be helped, makes us sad. Is it us, or is it a facade?
