Unrecognizable

“Unrecognizable” the headline screams
Heckling the latest actress who dares to show her face in public
Code for old, fat, or changed by plastic surgery
How dare she have laugh lines and forehead creases
Or cover those “flaws” with fillers
Look! Her breasts are no longer perky
Look! Her ass is no longer firm
How dare she exist as anything other than an advertisement for sex
When it was ok to treat her as object
Does her sexuality go away because you deem her invisible
How dare you!
How dare you!
She is a Goddess, the Crone,
The wise woman
Screw you! You think a man can age and become “Distinguished”
He can flaunt his younger upgraded darling
And we applaud him
But what about the Crone?
You have forgotten, her grace?
Her knowledge of self that doesn’t give a shit what you think
Her soul is stunning
Polished smooth in places by the sands of time
And jagged in others from heart breaks and trauma
She is beyond beautiful

She is “unrecognizable”
