Love how raw and on point this is. If indeed you are only 14 - or even if not!- the theme and observations expressed in this piece definitely convey someone wide beyond their years while still balancing healthy cynicism with the hope and joy that a free spirit and poet possesses.

Fantastic combination of lyrical, whimsical, vivid imagery and concrete theme. Oh the ebb and flow of relationships and the often slow but unmistakable descent into destructiveness….but face toward the sun often survival and rebirth. I really enjoyed this. We’ll done, thank you for sharing!

Spectacular composition, cadence and imagery. Haunting and lyrical, this piece coaxes the reader into a spiraling descent of beautiful yet crushing madness.

As I was waiting for for my coffee to brew this drizzly morning, I opened my email and was shocked to see the notification that Absence earned first place in this month’s contest. I am humbled and touched that it spoke to so many of you and am grateful to be part of this talented community. Thank you all and keep writing!

I continued to come back to your poem as I whittled down my pinned poems to select my top choice. I love the structure and imagery here. There's an ethereally, whimsical quality to your piece that simultaneously conveys a sense of deep longing, angst and dogged determination. I felt like I was floating in a dream and awoke feeling the remnants of a lingering spell that had been cast. Thank you for sharing and keep writing!

Elegant and sophisticated, the poet carefully crafted a piece that is at once subtle yet powerful, nostalgic and rueful, yet simultaneously joyous and full of optimism. A lovely tribute that stays with you. Well done!
