Absence

Absence

Your absence is silence
that screams to be heard
like re-reading a sentence
but not grasping one word.

The blandness of white
needing a splash of blue or green
like observing a masterpiece
and it remaining unseen.

Missing you is salt
searching for tears
it’s months out of season
and weeks without years.

It’s blood that flows backwards
in and out of my veins
and the bluest of skies
releasing the blackest of rains.

By dusk I am restless
as day yields into night
I am no longer equipped
to engage in this fight.

So willingly now
I surrender to sleep
to revel in dreams
of you I can keep.

One thing to admire in all is the images that many of the lines bring to the mind. This is one of the things that make this poem a very good one.
The rhyme-scheme is carried out quit well; nothing reads odd.
    Good read!

I like the images and metaphors, but the lines don't all scan smoothly.

I know smell brings back memories, but reading your poem does also.
So with tears in my eyes I say thank you.

As I was waiting for for my coffee to brew this drizzly morning, I opened my email and was shocked to see the notification that Absence earned first place in this month’s contest. I am humbled and touched that it spoke to so many of you and am grateful to be part of this talented community. Thank you all and keep writing!

You captured how it feels to long the presence of someone in such a painful yet beautiful way! I think anyone can relate to this poem in some way. Great job! I’ve read it several times.

I enjoyed this despite the subject not necessarily being something enjoyable. Well written work~

The comparisons create vivid imagery whilst still being smart and cohesive. The first stanza stood out for me. Overall, the pacing and form feel natural and enjoyable. Lovely writing!
