Innocence

Looking into his wide eyes,
oceans of sorrow and
innocent wonder,
trying to make sense of a chaotic life.

In the hollow of his eyes
loss of life and spark
a mother sadly wonders
where's the love of my life?

It's a cold night in the shelter
a small room with curtains divided,
hunger and anger clasping hands
strangle the bud straining to open.

Gently, she rocks him, breathing
life into his thin form
warming him till he glows
with hope and serenity.

She'll hold him till he understands.

About this poem

Beautifully raw, desperate yet hopeful. Powerful. The last line…..
