Shades of Difference

Gisela Vigil 1959 (Cuba)

We look at the same colors
yet still see different shades.
You watch at dawn, the sunrise.
I watch as sunset fades.

May walk upon the same path,
but each with different stride.
Some haste the steps in hurry.
Some cruise on peaceful ride.

One sings aloud with passion.
melodious is voice.
Another harbors silence,
to blanket words, the choice.

Many fight battles daily
as struggles do appear.
While others, apathetic,
no battle cry do hear.

Neither is titled winner,
for life is not a game.
Unique is every person.
Their shadows, not the same.

The only way to journey
this life of rise and fall,
is if we blend together
the strengths of one and all.

We each are shaded colors,
like crayons in a tin.
When differences’ accepted,
Humanity will win.

Gisela Vigil

Thank you for welcoming me to this community. I was born in Cuba but emigrated with my family to the US when I was three. I am mother to three young adults now, and also a grandmother. I’ve been writing for years, some I share, others I still keep in my personal file. I often write of struggles for we all face them as we journey through life. But still, I feel peace knowing I try my best. Feel blessed to have been given the gift of writing which I strive to improve cause there’s always room for growth. more…
