The Heart Doesn't Forget

The heart doesn’t forget what it came here to do
It loves impossible creatures
And sadness and strife, it never picks the easy route
It takes me through forests when I know I should flee

The heart doesn’t forget what it came here to do
It attempts to help the injured wild things
Who only bite and claw causing damage
I look at in disbelief, as if the outcome could be altered

The heart doesn’t forget what it came here to do
It wants to dance but the partners never seem to match
They strum to a different beat and do not feel the rhythm
Leaving me dancing alone in the spotlight

The heart doesn’t forget what it came here to do
It writes soulful poems and loves impermanent things
Coloring the pages with fragrances of the past
And makes meaning of moments lost

About this poem

The first line came to me in dream and just begged for me to wake up and write it down

A gorgeous piece of writing that I expect to come from a writer of your caliber. The competition is getting impossibly difficult to compete against these days. Seems there are actual trained writers here now. All we can do is our best while keeping our heads high. You'll always be in the running, buddy.

thanks my friend. I did feel like this was not by best work and I should have attempted to rhyme but I get impatient and I just went with it for the contest. I also think rhyming poems can get kind of cheesy. It's a delicate balance. That first line came to me in a dream and I may play with it a bit for another poem.

I deplore rhyming poems for the most part unless they're exceptional. When I write them, I like to throw a beating on myself afterward just to assure myself I'm still a man. Ugh!

haha, I'm glad you share by distain for rhymes unless you are Dr. Seuss or Dylan Thomas.

You'll be horrified to know I have not one, but TWO, rhyming poems for this month's contest. Well, off to iron my skirt.

the rhyming I’m sure you can eloquently pull off, the skirt you can confidently doff. Lol, don’t unfriend me.

Honestly, I really like one of the ones I'm entering. It's different. Even you may like it...but I won't hold my breath. I won't lie. I had to look up doff. Never heard the word before. Interesting...
