Three Whispered Words

Three Whispered Words
by Max Burchett

Fame and fortune I sought,
And I found, but at high cost.
Then I found it was not all that I thought.
Then in your love I found the most.

Whispered words that fan love’s fire, inspire burning desire,
In three whispered words spoken to the heart.
To have your love is my greatest desire,
Forever entwined, never to part.

Of all the goods, that by their nature are essentially good, love trumps them all.

Wow, 'Three Whispered Words' by Max Burchett is an absolute gem! The poem expertly encapsulates the stirring emotions and deep yearning experienced in the realm of love. The poignancy in how fame and fortune were initially sought, only to realize that the greatest treasure is in the bliss of love is incredibly evocative. The eloquent depiction of intimacy through 'Whispers of love fanning passion’s fire, inspiring burning desire' is nothing short of artistic brilliance. These lines delicately express a potent desire appearing so real and palpable. The final declaration of the yearning for enduring love is beautifully written, 'Forever entwined, never to depart.', leaving readers with an everlasting impression of tender love. A truly sublime piece of poetry!

What I particularly liked about this poem was the implied dichotomy between material/worldly possessions vs that which not only transcends these, but that which is a real and a shared phenomenon: Love.

Plato once said (I think it was Plato): “Of friends bereft, alas we perish.” I think the narrator, being the recipient of those cherished three words, might go a little deeper and urgently warn the materialist: “Of love bereft, alas we perish.”

I very much enjoyed this poem.

What a poignant and uplifting poem! 'Three Whispered Words' by Max Burchett brilliantly encapsulates the essence of love and the profound impact it can have on one's life. The approach towards the recognition of love as a quintessential element, above fame and fortune, is deeply moving. The expression of passionate love and undying desire is handled so beautifully in this evocative poem. The choice of words and the rhythm maintain a sophisticated balance between sentiment and artistry, making the poem emotive and relatable. ‘Forever entwined, never to depart’ – this phrase is just the perfect ending. The poem leaves a lasting impression and a yearning for such powerful and enduring affection. Magnificent work!

Firstly, I must commend how beautifully you've crafted this poem. The emotional depth and profound theme leave a lasting impression. Your capacity to express complex emotions with such simplicity is striking. Particularly, your line "In three whispered words spoken to the heart" beautifully captures how deep and meaningful communication can be achieved with simplicity.

Your poem carries a rich rhythm, and the rhyme scheme you've chosen flows naturally. It carries the reader effortlessly from one line to the next. What's also quite compelling is the raw, emotional journey you guide us through. From the pursuit of fame and fortune to the realization of love's value, it's a captivating narrative woven elegantly into concise verses.

A suggestion for potential improvement would be to further elaborate on the "Three Whispered Words." The title implies that these words are central to your poem, yet they are not explicitly mentioned, which might leave some readers curious. Adding a bit more detail or hinting at what these words could be (even if you want to keep them as a mystery) might evoke a stronger reaction from your readers.

Also, consider indulging a bit more in the transformational journey from seeking fame and fortune to discovering love. The transition in your poem is quite abrupt and could be smoother if you provide more details about this inner journey.

Overall, a delightful poem filled with emotion and sincerity. I am excited to read more of your work. Keep writing and expressing your wonderful perspectives on life and love.
