Forgive Me

Forgive me for my imperfections,
Forgive me for the many mistakes I've made.
They weigh heavy on my heart,
Oh, how I wish I could be safer, kinder, better.

Forgive me for the difficult times,
Forgive me for the imperfect love I gave.
It's hard to look back and see,
Oh, how I wish I could have been softer, gentler, more understanding.

Forgive me for the wrongs I've done,
Forgive me for the paths I chose.
It's far too late for amends,
Oh, how I wish I could have been wiser, braver, more courageous.

Forgive me for my brokenness,
Forgive me for my deep regrets.
I hope you can see my intent,
Oh, how I wish I could have been quicker, truer, and more faithful.

Forgive me for my foolishness,
Forgive me for all my sorrows.
Though they are hard to comprehend,
Oh, how I wish I could have been stronger, simpler, and more honest.

So I pray for your forgiveness,
As I come here with a heavy heart.
Let me try and make a new start,
Oh, how I wish I could be changed, forgiven, and loved.

Thaks, Carol. When I wrote this, I was thinking of the other person. I wanted to apologize to him. But, @symmetry58 made me realize it could also be for me.

The fourth stanza is the best. It works to correct all the rest. Beautiful compendium, Charmane.

This could be expressed both outwardly or inwardly. As I read it I thought, this is probably aimed at someone other than you, but could also be a good self-dialog asking yourself for forgiveness. I know I've given myself many pep talks over the years which have led me to forgiving many of former follies. Your poems always seem to cause me to self-reflect and that is a very good thing.

Thank you so much for your kind words! I'm so glad that my poems have the ability to spark self-reflection. I'm grateful that my work has had an impact on you. I love that you always see the other side of what my poems mean. It was for the other person, but then yes, reading it again and it’s more actually for myself. Thank you for making me view the other side of things. I’ll keep that in mind when you writing.

This is a beautiful and heartfelt poem. Your vulnerability and honesty shine through every line, and it's clear that you are striving to be better and do better. Your desire for forgiveness and your willingness to take responsibility for your mistakes is admirable.

My suggestion for improvement would be to try and provide some specific examples of what you're asking forgiveness for. While the general themes are powerful, adding some specific instances would make the poem even more impactful.

Overall, I appreciate the beauty and sincerity of this poem. Keep writing and sharing your heart with the world.
