I have to say I'm a bit embarrassed that after going through 149 poems, this one still rose to the top and stayed. And I'm a prudish, proper, white-haired octogenarian, Oh, my! But I loved the rhyme, meter, and mostly I thought it clever. It made me lol, and in this day and age, that is a treat.

I read this poem so many times, falling more in love with it each time. I love the metaphor of depression as prison warden and the prison as your mind. This poem is so apt, so true, so poignant. I like how the author continues the metaphor throughout the poem, applying it so aptly to what depression is, and still maintaining the rhyming style. The other prisoners, of whom you're well acquainted, are earlier versions of self, and occupy the prison of your mind. The ammunition for the evil, cruel warden's gun are memories that he loves to shoot. "Nothing would give him more pleasure " It is so true that past regrets are the weapons depression uses against us. Wow. Like I said, I love everything about this poignant poem. Thanks for sharing it. It's likely one I will commit to memory.

I like everything about this poem, the rhyme, cadence, but mostly the heart-rending message which I wish everyone would read with empathy.

I love that this sad, poignant poem honors the innocent victims of a hate crime. It shows the danger and damage done by lies propagated on the Internet pushed by creating fear and divisive hatred. It warns that this is not the end, for the root cause continues and grows. It's an important message that seems so hard to get across in this climate of hate and greed.

Oh thank you! I'm so glad to hear that you listened to Miranda and Starlight. The narrator is my late sister, and I agree, she did a wonderful job.

I like the rhyme and meter of this poem. I like the light-hearted message that I can readily relate to. Don't we all as poets sometimes want an audience for our uniquely penned thoughts?

Every kind thing you've said about my poems, goes double for yours. I remember some of them from the contests, and in time I will read them all or reread them. Your poetry is poignant and touches my heart.

Your poem, Gay NegroGremlins dancing between the pages won my vote in the June contest. I'm glad to see that at least you were a runner-up. There is just one line that I didn't get. Would you explain what the line "If Mary was born two years after Ray" is referring to? Thanks. Janet Muirhead Hill

This poem touches me deeply, giving voice to my horror at the persistent, insidious, and astonishingly overt efforts to deprive America's youth of honest and crucial facts on so many fronts.

Yes. It's why so few of us ever tell. Those who do are shamed and ostracized. Your poem captured it well.

I chose this poem because it is the truth for far too many of us, and most will never tell.

I like the rhyme and cadence, and it is so sweet. and so relatable to me as a mother, grandmother, and great grandmother who has watched and is watching many beloved children learn and grow into their individual selves.

I love it when the poem I voted for comes in first. I like The Witch of Aberdeen so much that I've memorized it. Thank you for sharing it.

It was not an easy decision. Many of the poems spoke to me deeply, evoking various emotions. I cannot describe exactly the feeling this poem, The Witch of Aberdeen, gave me, but I find it haunting as if it touches some ancient melancholy chord. That and the lyrical rhyme and rhythm made it my first choice.

It was really hard to narrow down. My favorites were gripping, poignant, but oh, so sad. Finally, I chose this because of is upbeat message, at least a temporary answer to our troubles. Sometimes we just need to load up our best friend, crank up the stereo, hit the road, and let our worries and heartaches blow in the wind.
