The Good Old Days

Beginning with tears
And being thrown into arms of love,
Beginning with time
And family beloved,
Beginning with stories
And nights by the fire,
Beginning with invisible hands
Lifting me higher and higher.
In a place where the world
Was the safest place to be,
Way back when we all
Appreciated every leaf, every tree,
Before the pain,
Before the lies,
Before the broken promises,
And the fact that love dies.
That world lies frozen,
Stuck in the past,
Full of other things
I always thought would last,
And here I am today,
Before you, alive and well,
Pulled from another life,
Looking up from where I fell.
