Giving In

Look out across the midnight sky,
see the lights from afar,
this spectacle that none have shared in,
there was no one to stay.
Tonight, and only tonight, you are here,
I know that time is short,
but it’s much too easy for me to pretend,
much too easy to forget.
I don’t want to remember I should be alone,
I don’t want to say the words,
every single time it’s hard to watch you go,
leaving me in solitude.
This night, and only this night can be different,
we have until the sun rises,
I’ll be exactly the same as I was the day past,
and yet all the more I’ve changed.
