Layers of You

I stare out into space
The haze distorts my view
There’s not much light out here
Nothing quite clear and true
But isn’t that our life
We all know how it is
We see what we want to see
And take what life wants to give

You have a lot of layers
Not sure how deep they go
The more I get to know you
The less I seem to know

On the surface your vibe is easy
You know how to bring the fun
100 miles per hour
No need to walk when you can run
But when I think I know you
The puzzle finally solved
You leave me in the dust
The truth left unresolved

You have a lot of layers
Like drifts made out of snow
The more I get to know you
The less I seem to know

You swing into my view
A little more you share
A crack in the veneer
Your thoughts finally laid bared
Tell me how you feel
No lies, just give me facts
The truth is what I want
Be honest, don’t hold back

You have a lot of layers
A depth that I can see
I want to get to know you
And you to get to know me

You have a lot of layers
A puzzle for my mind
I want to unlock the truth
The real you I want to find

Stand here now beside me
Let your mind be free
Block out all the noise
It’s finally just you and me
I want to hear your voice
Time for you to be true
Can’t wait to get to know you
Explore the many layers of you

This poem moves fluidly in its prose, with wonderful use of imagery and marvellous exploration of the human complexity. ‘Layers of You’ displays a brilliant understanding of how people are not simply superficial entities, but rather layered beings, deeper than what meets the eye. The metaphors used throughout the piece are impressive and deep, yet accessible, making it easy for readers to follow along and apply to their own experiences. Bravo!

You've captured the persistence of wanting to know someone on a deeper level very well. Your repeated line, "You have a lot of layers," serves as an effective chorus or refrain, connecting the stanzas and themes beautifully.

One point for improvement could be in diversifying your vocabulary a bit more to avoid redundancies and maintain the reader's interest. For instance, instead of repeating phrases like "The more I get to know you, the less I seem to know," and "The real you I want to find," you could introduce new lines that echo the same sentiment but offer a fresh perspective.

Secondly, the ending could be more substantial or dramatic, having the tone matching with the intensity and depth explored in the first part of the poem. Maybe deciding on a specific, impactful image or action could make the ending more poignant.

Overall, this is a fantastic piece that delves into the mysteries and complexities of getting to know somebody. It clearly shows your ability to depict a range of emotions while maintaining a consistent flow. You should be very proud of your work! Keep writing and exploring.
