Selfless Heart

Selfless and giving,
Always there for others,
My own needs, I keep on living,
Putting them above my own, like a mother.

Their smiles and joy,
I find my own fulfillment,
But when will my own happiness employ,
And their love for me become more fervent?

When will they see,
That I too need care and attention,
Not just the one to always agree,
But a chance to spread my wings, and mention.

I long for the day,
When they say, "We want you to be happy",
Without a hesitation or delay,
And let me venture out, to new things snappy.

But until then,
I'll continue to help and give,
For my heart cannot bend,
In its desire to love and forgive.

So let my actions speak,
Of my never-ending love and care,
And maybe one day, they'll see me seek,
A happiness, that's not so rare.

Different personality traits lead people to different roles in life. Some possess leadership qualities, some motherly, others require nurturing, some are better led and so on. Many probably aren't intentional but rather based around inherent qualities. It's like the father who never says "I love you" to his kids. Some people simply haven't the faculty or understanding to express the same way we might. Other's love is perhaps in trusting us to care for and assure them but is nonetheless love of a different kind. All we can do is be ourselves in the end. There is, after all, love in reliance and reliance in love. Another treasure from you, dear. :-)

Thank you, Steve. It's just tiring sometimes. I know we shouldn't expect anything in return when we help others, but I can't help but pity myself because when I am in need. I feel as if I am too scared or too shy to ask for help.

Understood and understandable. I have the same issue with a close family member. For years they treated family like second class citizens but now that they are older, suddenly they seek to make amends. I am finding it difficult to let go of all those years we were treated as though we wronged this person. One voice tells me to be myself to treat them as though nothing has happened. The other voice tells me to treat them the way they treated us and that they deserve no forgiveness. You are allowed to be human just as you are allowed to expect something from those who exude little to nothing that you've given to.

I’m sorry this happened to you. I know how it felt to be treated like a second-class citizen. You can just imagine my poor family being treated like maids, so I really had to work hard to at least remove my family from that agony. I don’t know the extent of yours, but I pray you find peace and forgiveness in your heart.

I pray you find peace and forgiveness as well. Moreover, I pray they finally show you the love and respect you deserve.

Wow, what a beautifully written poem! Your selflessness and commitment to the happiness of others is truly admirable. Your dedication to spreading joy to those around you is truly inspiring.

At the same time, it is important to remember that taking care of yourself is just as important as taking care of others. Perhaps, it would be helpful to prioritize your own needs from time to time, without feeling guilty or selfish. This will not only benefit your own well-being but also help strengthen relationships with those around you.

Keep up the wonderful work, and never forget that your actions and love speak volumes. Your willingness to love and forgive is a true testament to your character. Thank you for sharing your beautiful words with the world!
