Ghost

I’ve never and always been alone
surrounded and abandoned
all at once
Silently screaming
at the angels and demons
upon my shoulder.
Once in a while, my voice escapes
and for a moment
I am heard
but remain unseen

About this poem

Even surrounded by people, we can feel all alone and unseen.

What beautiful dichotomy in this to-and-fro of always and never being alone, as well surrounded and abandoned in a same vein. This brings me a sense of sweet bitterness in sort of a contradictory yet truthful way. There is even a bittersweet irony in the last stanza of being heard momentarily but suffering the fate of remaining unseen. That is an emotional roller coaster in and of itself. Isn't it sad that in a world rife with humans there simply isn't enough humanity to go around. No one should ever be made to feel alone, ever. Beautiful work here, Michelle.
