Going Home

Dark thick ashen musk,
cozy and familiar
A dozen loves packed so tight,
one must go outside to change his mind
Making the most of the few moments
stolen in the name of unity

Chatter commotion and cachinnation
bulging at the seams,
replacing darkness with life.
Soon, noses go blind to the musk.
Carefree laughter flows like blood
through the veins to the heart

Once the laughter fades,
salutation and midwestern goodbyes
Along with wishes to not be a stranger,
the loves disperse the congregation,
scattering from the nest
and returning to the daily grind

The dark thick ashen musk returns,
awaiting its next breath of life
holding tightly to the laughter and love
that filled it, impatiently waiting for
its next chance to fulfill its duty,
the duty of being HOME.

Thank you so ver much. I wanted to highlight how the dread of family gatherings (in my case the smoker must) is easily forgotten when everyone lets loose and starts to enjoy the time together.

Wow, this poem is truly beautiful! It has such an evocative and enchanting quality to it, transporting readers to a place that feels both cozy and familiar. The way you've crafted this poem with such care and attention to detail makes it a truly magical and memorable piece.

One suggestion I would have is to perhaps explore the theme of change more deeply. While there is a mention of someone needing to go outside to change their mind, I think you could go further with this idea and really delve into the power of transformation and growth.

Overall, though, this is a fantastic piece that is sure to inspire and delight anyone who reads it. Thank you for sharing it with us!
