Holding Onto Me
Holding Onto Me
Winter cold rushes in
Shivering outside because I can’t face him while facing my sin
I try to apologize but don’t know where to begin
Yet he just sits there with a grin
He puts his arms out wide
He says, “I’m glad you chose to come inside”
Tears, they slip down quietly
He wipes them off because he sees
When the troubles of this world
Knock me down to the floor
I come running back on home
I scramble up his throne
I run into his outstretched arms
Jesus sees through all my charms
My arms are wrapped around his waist
He knows the evil I’ve faced
He know all my secrets that I’ve never ever told
Still he welcomes me out from the cold
He knows the things I’m ashamed to admit to
But ya wanna know what he would do?
He would die for me, little me
He gave his life to someone who would ruin his own name
Yet instead of a horrible fate, he gave me fame
He gave me more than I deserve
And all he asks is that I serve
He stays by my side and helps me learn
I ignore him, I forget him
And I always tell him to shut up
Yet even through the silence
Even when I fight against
Even when I’ve cursed his name
Even when I bring him to shame
He still holds me close and near
He still wipes my every tear
When all I see are fears
He is the one who is standing next to me when the fog all clears
And so I praise him to this day
Even when I don’t know what to say
Because Jesus loves me this I know
Jesus loves me even though
So I’ll do it in his name
I’ll push through no matter the shame
I will tell the whole wide world
How my Jesus saves my soul
And so I’ll tell you right now
Look to him and you’ll be found
Listen to his word and see
That he’s the one who holds the key

About this poem
Just a poem I wrote in church that I’ve been meaning to write for a bit, but never got around to. It isn’t all I wanted to say, but it’s a comforting truth I had to write.
