No lights in the darkness

No Lights in the Darkness

Being a young teenage girl and full of mischievousness
Sneaking out into the dark of the early night
Wondering in the streets that are dead of life.
Making my way to a destination unknown
Just knowing that there is something out there.
For me to feel as if there is excitement involved
Walking under streetlights that seem to shut off as soon as I pass under
Many times this has happened without a second thought
Until one night
The lights flickered as if to warn me of something evil lurking.
Still not comprehending the warning
I ventured on to the destination unknown
I came across someone that was known but not known personally
We walked and talked until we came upon a house and I was invited in
If only I would have known that this was going to be a dark night to remember
Evil was lurking in the person and my innocence was gone
I couldn’t scream because of the hand on my mouth
I couldn’t breathe because of fear
Why, why didn’t I pay attention to those lights
They warned me and I knew that this was a sign
Yet I chose to be the mischievous young girl looking for adventure
I was warned with no lights in the darkness

This was a dark time in my life. I knew of this guy through high school. His dad was a security officer and there was nothing that I could do, so I thought. What could be done?
