Treat Me As Human

Treat Me as a human:

You may not like the things I do,
Or the way in which I love,
I may not fit your status quo,
Or be your type of woven glove,
But all I ask is a simple thing,
And I'll ask no more of you,
Give me the respect,
Cause I'm a human being,
That's all you have to do,

You may not like the weight I'm at,
Or the tattoos on my skin,
The holes in which I choose to wear,
Or the way I choose my sin,
But all I ask,
Is a Simple thing,
It isn't hard at all,
Respect that I'm a human being,
And that we all wear our own flaws,

I might not be your vision,
Of a knight in shining gear,
I may be a little louder,
Then you particularly like to hear,
But don't stand in blatant judgment,
No don't smirk,
And roll you eyes,
Because I may be someones perfect,
So all I ask is that you try,
To see me as a human,
If you can see me for no more,
I don't ask for you to like me,
Or to get to know my core,
Just respect a simple kindness,
And go among your way,
With no a word of hatred,
Or a expression sent my way.

If we all would just accept this,
And try to practice so,
The world would be a kinder place,
For us all to live and grow,
Cause we wouldn't have to worry,
About such prejudice and hate,
If simple acts of humanity,
And respect,
Were all that there was left to debate.

Dustin Atwood

My name is Dustin, I am 29 but it feels as if I am a lot older by due of wear and tear.I credit this, to the way I write.I discovered Poetry, when I was 16 in high school. It was a way for me, to put my emotions on paper and get then out of my head. Time went on, and I discovered that using poetry, was in a sense my release from this world. I have struggled with sexuality, loss, depression, anxiety, self doubt, you will find these things in my writing.I like to think my writing is my souls dialogue. It is a voice that maybe the outside me, would never have the courage to say.It is things that have happened that many don't know, a sort of secret side of me. I hope you enjoy! more…
