Puny expectations
Never could do your sights justice:
Soaring and lumbering,
Bathed in such fresh tranquility -
These are your high mountains.

Your colours arrested me too -
The melange of autumn
Aglow in this richness of change;
Re-inventing these tones
So tragically forgotten -
Here on your wooded hills.

Your dwellings looked so welcoming -
Substantial yet pretty,
Seeming to exude contentment,
Sufficient and secure;
Proclaiming to lands more troubled -
This your alpine haven.
