Wrestling with Cancer

You spoke casually,
Masking the depths beneath your pain,
As if morning might break,
Flooding your darkness with brightness;
Then I heard of your plight,
And I wept in deepest anguish.

The prognosis is grave,
And I can't imagine your thoughts,
Pondering the options,
Suspending all your future hopes:
But fight you must, my dear,
For all your family's tomorrows.

I know that you have faith,
Even a faith to move mountains;
But questions still arise,
Doubts which echo in this valley:
You must cling on to life,
Stretching to hold this gift intact.
