Ember Burrow

In the ends of the blazing fire
that burnt the forest to the ground
a single flicker,
a dim and dirty glow
floats silently amongst the snow.
From feeble fire the faerie flies
inside an old fox hole
to hide his weary head
and wait for winter's end.

In the darkness of his den
with the fire fading fast,
he checked out on the wastes of snow and ash
to see what had passed.
In his dispair he hung his head,
for all his friends have gone and fled,
and left him alone, left him for dead.

On the brink of season's change
a visitor had made their way in as he slept the days away.
He opened his eyes to find fortune
had taken mercy on his sorry soul
and gifted him with something beautiful
in the form of a friend.
Their companionship came to bloom
as the flowers broke through
their shallow dirt strewn tomb,
and as the Springtime came and went
the embers built up a dream;
within a flash their hopes came to life
and erupted fire from the Earth.
From the flames came beautiful Autumn leaves
and the forest was filled with laughter and love once more.
