An Angel In Disguise

I'm on a park bench
wallowing in my grief,
numb to all but my pain.
And tending to my tears
I didn't hear her approach,
I was too busy crying.

My mother had just died
and I was near collapse.
Climbing onto my lap
she kissed me on my cheek
and said," it's alright to cry,
God won't think you're weak."

She hugged me tightly
and my tears ceased to fall.
A child no more than five,
healed me with her innocence.
And upon seeing me smile,
ran off to join her friends.

An angel in disguise,
she brought me great comfort.
I'll never know who she was,
or why she sought me out,
but she showed me that love
really does exist.

Many of my poems reflect the uniqueness and special circumstances of my upbringing. more…
