My Stupid Navy Poem

Nancy Jeanmard 1988 (LOUISIANA)

From land to sea my life took me swiftly, yet with ease.
A quick decision in my head which landed me on my feet.
6 years ago, I was afraid of what exactly was to come.
I signed the line, and dotted my i's now it's over and done.
I can't look back and say that I have any regrets at all.
I wouldn't want a do-over, but the rise was worth the fall.
The waves I overcame were massive and with sacrifice.
But sailing for my country is one thing I've done right.
I've learned to speak my mind in ways you wouldn't believe.
Standing up for what I feel with enormous grace and ease.
Defending peace and freedom, from here around the world.
Protecting the smiles on the faces of every boy and girl.
Upon the USS  Nimitz, I learned how to be a sailor.
How to conquer my fears and deal with my anger.
With thick skin I leave this ship, and I love who I've become.
I am an united States sailor, within my veins, salt water runs.
