Lopsided Love

High on a pedestal looking over my head, trying to remember just what you felt for me the day we were wed. Vows and love through words profess, I’m blowing bubbles for you to burst in mid air, these days you look at me without a care, maybe regret?

The bottom is falling out but I’m still standing here, who knows what will be left for us tomorrow, chances are I will be left to admire you from afar. Lopsided love it always seems that I’m the heavy one, never playing up to par.

Some people go out and get high, while others hang their head and cry, I waste my days wondering why I still see that sparkle in your eyes, when all you can do is look at me and sigh.

In-laws call it a shame but still who will hold the blame, confess to me you just don’t feel the same, I can’t play this hide and seek game with your heart. There was a day when I thought I could lure your love my way and convince it to stay, now I know it was effort cast in vein.

What about our secret pillow talk, the lazy Sunday mornings coffee in bed. Did I change that much, or was it the worry lines in my forehead. I can see that when you do look at me it’s time that you set me free. I love you still as I always knew I would, but Love sometimes is fleeting, it leaves as fast as it came.

We're left to our own devices and nothing more, my fears aren’t quite descript but your words are very clear, and they sting like the crack of the whip...

Numi

"Numi" is the pen-name I adopted in 2007 after a friend gifted me a copy of The Essential Rumi; by Coleman Barks. After reading some of my works, it was suggested that it reminded them of the works by Rumi. In no way do I align myself with this Great Master Poet, but I do feel a deep connection to his poetry, and the book of Essentials was my constant companion during a 5 year saga, where I was stranded in the Amazon Jungle of Peru, from 2010-2015. Everything in my collections were written during a 4 year period, 1999-2003. more…
