Materialism

Money may own you
But f*ck it Im free
Pick up the phone dude
And listen to me
Your losing your self
Your eyes are too closed to see
That the car you bought
Might as well be
A prison of metal
An idea of self esteem
But you have nothing
Without a dream
And me I got plenty
You’ll see what I mean
When I’m rapping for you
Trying to cure your disease

I am a 34 year old Entrepreneur. I majored in Psychology many years ago at BU. I have always loved writing as it has been a passion of mine. About 5 years ago I was hit pretty heavily with mental illness so it’s been a long journey back to writing. But I have started to find my passion again over the last year or so and look forward to continue creating. more…

Thanks! it’s an excerpt from a song I wrote about my buddy(from his point of view) for my buddy, so that might be why it seem like there should be more. Because there is, but the rest was more personal to him.

I am in between thoughts here with this. I am not sure if the poem is condemning the possession of money or celebrating it. Some lines suggest that it is while others go away from that idea. I like the rhythm of the poem and its diction but I fail to capture the heart of it or what it is trying to say.
Perhaps some aid from you could clarify the matter.

it’s not really condemning money as much as a person’s connection of self to it, and letting that be their purpose.
