Dear Old Friend

Life’s pushed me to make a few changes
as reality sinks into head.
You may see it as a step backwards.
I see it as forward instead.

Was always the first you’d be calling
when you needed troubles to pour.
No matter if morning or midnight
For you, welcome mat at my door.

The first you’d reach out for when crisis
brought struggles and problems to mend.
The first to pick up your distress call.
I’d never turn back on you, friend.

From so many years of the walking
with troubles you placed on my back.
My bones are beginning to fail me,
my fortitude starting to lack.

Now I am the one making phone call
with thoughts that with you want to share.
But all that I hear is your voicemail.
The friend that I need is not there.

Your heart does not see that I’m
breaking,
to mend many pieces I must.
But how many calls need be making
to hear voice of friend I most trust?

Hence sadly must make a few changes
to living and habits of past.
Not first is the place I’ll be standing
You’ll find me now standing in last.

I wish you the best on your journey.
May wishes you dream all come true.
And fondly in heart I’ll keep storing
the memory of friend I once knew.

Gisela Vigil

Thank you for welcoming me to this community. I was born in Cuba but emigrated with my family to the US when I was three. I am mother to three young adults now, and also a grandmother. I’ve been writing for years, some I share, others I still keep in my personal file. I often write of struggles for we all face them as we journey through life. But still, I feel peace knowing I try my best. Feel blessed to have been given the gift of writing which I strive to improve cause there’s always room for growth. more…
