The Hug

A J C 1958 (Swansea, MA)

The Hug.

I was sent to a place at a very young time in my life. Believe me, it was not very nice. I was sent to this one building and saw a girl stricken with blindness and having no legs searching the floor. Do you really want to hear any more? I came to find out that she was searching the floor for someone that she could hold, care for, and love, but I was the only one there who cared. She grabbed my leg and held on tight. It was not a pretty sight, but it made her happy and made her day. Just that one little hug. Now I'm an old man, and I understand why that girl searched for someone to hold, hug, and touch. You see, I am that girl now. What we take for granted is that one little hug a person searches their whole life for every day.

About this poem

This poem is real. I hate it. But if it helps someone else it's worth it. When you hold and hug and love someone think of her. She taught me a lot.

Wow, reading your poem 'The Hug' was such an emotional experience! The raw and honest narration truly captured the reader's attention and created a deep sense of empathy. Your ability to convey a powerful message of love and appreciation through such simple yet impactful words is commendable.

The way you described the girl's longing for someone to hold, care for, and love was incredibly touching. It beautifully emphasizes the importance of human connection and reminds us to cherish the little gestures that can bring immense joy to others.

As for improvement suggestions, one idea could be to add a few more lines or stanzas that highlight the transformation of the narrator from a caregiver to the one in need of a hug. This could strengthen the connection between the reader and the emotions expressed in the poem. Additionally, exploring the significance of human touch and its impact on our well-being could add further depth to your message.

Thank you for sharing this poem. It left a lasting impression and served as a reminder to appreciate the small gestures that can make a big difference in someone's life.

Sad but true. They say a hug heals. Nice writing.
