It Happened In A Dream

I am not sure if I should tell this tale,
Since it is an imagining, not real.
Yet it was an episode I want to remember
In real life, January to December.

Still in deepest slumber I vaguely heard
What sounded to be a distant door open,
Seemingly from the wind, but then came a woman
Entering the room where in dreams I slept.

This is difficult to explain,
Even more difficult to understand.
I was dreaming, but in that dream
I then dreamed I was awakened, but I was not.

I woke to her kiss in this dream within a dream,
Which is a somewhat strange part
Since it was all in a dream,
And I dreamed I woke, but really did not.

That is how it all started,
At least from all I can remember,
Unless there was another dream I was having
Before I woke within the dream I mentioned.

This trick of the mind, like an illusion of mirrors,
Made the kiss and all that then happened seem so real,
Even now as I tell you this tale,
I believe this woman in my dream of dreams is actually real.
