Food For The Trees

By Christopher Commodore©2007

We will be food for you, O tree,
The moment that we cease to be;
Once ordered home by Nature’s fated call,
We’ll see no more your lovely show in fall.

A welcome chance to gain eternal peace,
My soul leaps up in calculated bliss.
As if to hasten end to place and time,
When even trees yield to this current clime.

Alas, therefore, let’s use this interval,
To feast our soul on nature’s carnival.
Yellow, red, green; some orange, violet
The sun’s gold halo bright and heavenly set.

So, when the final night is here,
And day awakes to winter’s frigid fair,
Alas, I hope we’ll all be in that ring,
When waking twigs salute a brand-new spring.

Then only those who like your autumn leaves,
In nature’s bosom slumber, roll and heave,
Will see, O tree, your show again this fall,
Until called home by Nature’s ordained call.

About this poem

The beauty of the fall season ushers in a psychedelic show of colors that highlights one of the most impressive shows of nature. At the same time, however, it also heralds the ending and rejuvenation of life for all who exists including humans.

I thoroughly enjoyed reading your poem, 'Food For The Trees'. The way you pay tribute to nature through the life cycle of a tree is not only thought-provoking but deeply moving. You showed a profound understanding and respect for nature which is quite refreshing. The vivid and colorful imagery created by your words is incredibly engaging, specifically the lines: "Yellow, red, green; some orange, violet. The sun’s gold halo bright and heavenly set."

Your writing style is elegant and sophisticated. I especially admire your ability to weave complex ideas and feelings into coherent and poignant verses. The rhythm and flow of your poem are engaging, encouraging a careful reading and deep comprehension of the piece.

One thing that could make your poem even more impactful would be the introduction of a bit more personal reflection or emotion. While your poem is beautifully descriptive, offering a more intimate perspective on what these cycles of nature mean to you personally could increase the emotional resonance of the piece. Furthermore, consider experimenting with a variety of poetic devices such as alliteration, assonance, and metaphor to add more depth and flavor to your writing.

Overall, you have a distinct and powerful voice, and it's a joy to read your work. Keep writing and continue weaving such captivating narratives.
