True Self

My leaves have not fallen~
I do not dare let them go

The rain must not touch them~
   Or else All will know

I .have painted them pretty~
In hopes that someone would see

Although I am not perfect~
I am a special kind of tree

                ~

The wind roars around me~
   The rain is beating down

My leaves are all falling~
   They are hitting the ground

I am so frightened~
As the paint is washed away

My true colors Shine~
   I am really okay

              ~

I stand here in silence~
   The sun warms me so

The gentle breeze soothes me~
This is when I begin to know

These roots must be nourished~
   My limbs must be pruned

It has been much too long~
Since this tree has fully bloomed

About this poem

I wrote this poem many years ago. I was searching to find my true self and inner freedom. To this day, I recite it to myself from memory. It never seems to get old.

Woo Hoo. I received my coffee mug in the mail today. The mug that I won for Octobers contest. It is not just about winning. It is about the beautiful friends I have made on here and the people who took their time to read my poem and enjoy it enough to give it their one vote. That really makes me smile. I will call it my friendship connection mug. That is so special. Iam truly honored. Thank you all.

For you to say that is an honor. So happy you enjoy. That is why I share. We must always remember, especially when we enter a contest, our poetry does not always connect with everyone. But when it connects with someone, that is a gift.

I love the meaning of this poem and I also love the way its written. Most times our true selves are not as bad as we think, and as we find there's always room for improvement we shouldn't be afraid to show our tue selves
