NEFARIOUS CREATURES SLINKING

Phil Roberts 1957 (Melbourne)

Nefarious creatures slinking
Through a village after Darkfall,
Leviathans are lumbering past
As the night whippoorwills call.

Malignant shadows are lurking
Around a silent sleeping village,
Minions of the Dark Lord dance
Performing an unholy homage.

Scrofulous life forms slithering
Around the village centre square,
Searching for living things to kill
Acidic slime trails are everywhere.

Depravities stalking the village
Hoping to hunt, to kill, to feast,
Innocents out after twilight
Are captured by infernal beasts.

Pestilential animals are spreading
Viral pathogens round the town,
Till plague pits are being dug up
Like some ancient burial mounds.

Nefarious creatures slinking
Hunting after human food,
Diamond-headed serpents
Slither forth to do no good.

Abominations tormenting
God's greatest creation,
Fire-spewing monsters from
The Book of Revelation.

People abandon the village,
Early after daytime falls,
Fleeing the foul vicinity before
Night terrors start to call.
