Listen And Love

Listen And Love

The heart of suffering and sorrow
Searches for listening souls
Hurting, confusion
And grieving people require
The eager ears of allies
Not the ego waiting to speak
Not the voice
Who enjoys their own sound
Not the self righteous sage
Proclaiming false sympathy
With unsolicited advice
Or worse slinging stones
At the lonely and miserable.

Kindness, respect and love are
The antidote for broken-hearted
Injuries require active aid
Caregivers who pay attention
Not looking for it themselves
The soft silence of care
Willing to take time
To be present wins the moment
A trusting being
Who listen not just hears
Instead of erecting dams
Allows tears to flow
Letting a heart heal.

About this poem
