Being misunderstood in a land of lies
And unpopular is singing in the rain
Others get wet but I feel clean
Letting the drops fall on me
The tears of Heaven
Touch and comfort
A place inside
Where my heart breaks
All over the floor
And a child is taken
Into the arms of a love
I can't see
Only feel
When I close my eyes
And weep alone.

Getting ignored and neglected hurts
The pain of personal bigotry
Penetrates my skin and soul
The insidious erasure
Attempts to wipe away
Any and all resemblance of
Decency and humanity
The door is slammed in my face
At the mere mention of my name
Opportunity to say something
Or sing my song of wonder is
Shouted into silence
As if my taking up space
Becomes the worst offense
And I bleed in the open.

In the infinite play of life's nonsense
I write my verse out loud
Here in the darkness
Inspiration speaks to me
And I listen carefully
My muse smiles
Giving me reason to breathe
The subtle truth:
I matter more than I know
My voice has a sonic signature
Validation is self evident
Feelings have expressions
Only I can create
I am loved because
In the eyes of love I am relevant.
