Ripples

A stone
Thrown
An impulsive, opportunity
Falling
Through deep silence
Touching
The "not forgotten"
Sending
Ripples of reconnection
Disturbing
The edges of the past

A phenomenological moment where time (‘through’) and space (‘deep silence’) give rise to memories of the past (‘the not forgotten’) by the simple skipping of a rock.

What these memories were is not expressly given, but this spontaneous act of skipping a rock (which may have been a shared experience) reconnects the protagonist with his/her past.

Excellent piece. I would love to know the specifics behind what inspired it.

Thank you so much for your encouraging comments.

When writing I like to link the 'emotional' with imagery of the 'tangible '.

I wrote this for a 'friend' who I had not been in touch with for 40 years. I wrote and sent it, as the poem states, on impulse. The deep silence being the 'time apert', the 'not forgotten' memories of our past friendship , in a hope that the ripplles would reconnect us but knowing that the 'edges of the past' would be disturbed by my making contact.

So profound, and to convey so much in so short a space. Have you heard of Hilda Doolittle? Your work reminds me of some of her pieces. You’re obviously a very gifted writer. I hope to read and see more of your work in the future.

      Again, lovely piece.

Despite yet because of its short form it leaves you with a sense of uncertainty and trepidation while at the same still feeling a “ripple” of hope and opportunity.
