Finding Beauty in Struggle

Tammie Swinehart 1974 (Mooresville, IN)

In the shadowed depths of trials and strife,
I ventured forth, seeking a new light,
Through storms I sailed, through darkest night,
To find the afterglow of a rough life.

Battered and bruised, my spirit worn,
Yet a flicker of hope, a flame reborn,
I journeyed on, no matter the cost,
Seeking the beauty that could never be lost.

Amidst the wreckage of shattered dreams,
I unearthed strength from the seams,
For in the ruins, a gem did gleam,
The afterglow of a life redeemed.

Through valleys low and mountains high,
I glimpsed a shimmer in the sky,
A radiant hue, a golden ray,
Guiding me to a brand new day.

In the echoes of heartache and despair,
I found a melody in the air,
A symphony of resilience, a song of grace,
A testament to the beauty of life's embrace.

With each scar and wound that I bore,
I discovered a treasure, forevermore,
The afterglow of battles fought and won,
A testament to all that I've become.

So let us cherish the struggles we face,
For they lead us to a higher place,
A life transformed, resilient and bold,
In the afterglow, a story told.

Tammie Swinehart

Not much to say. I live in a small town in Indianapolis and work full-time as a manager for an insurance company. I have written poems going back to grade school. They were all horrible, but fun and passed the time. I have journals of poems that go back 40 years. So now that I have more free time, I dig them out, clean them up while preserving the original thought and meaning behind them. more…
