Growing up my favorite friend was myself. While others played outside with friends, in the snow, in the sun, in the backyard, I was busy inside a library. My earliest memories are of wandering around my large three-story neighborhood library. This was my babysitter for many years. I taught myself to read and write well before I was due to be taught in school. As I grew older, I never lost my love of reading and writing, and found that everything I looked at, felt and experienced or saw other people experience, I could quickly come up with a story in my mind, a rhyme or a song (I'm a horrible singer). I would write as a hobby, to keep myself busy on the weekends or when I was grounded (went through a wild streak). I kept journals of poems over the course of my life from all the stages I went through, encounters and interactions and emotions I experienced. During COVID, finding myself working from home and with more free time on my hands than ever. I pulled these journals of old and new out and looked at them through different, more mature eyes. I re-wrote them but kept them relevant to the experience they belonged to. Each poem is a true part of my life. It could be from something I saw someone else do, say or go through. Or from random thoughts I had just from watching TV. If you look hard enough, inspiration is never ending.

Captivating Love's Obsessive Embrace

In shadows deep, where hearts entwine,
A tale of love, both sweet and thine,

Obsession's grip, a potent snare,
Like tendrils winding everywhere,
Through veins of longing,...

BONES’ ETERNAL WHISPERS

In a realm of shadows, a tale unfolds,
Of a sack of bones, where a story's told,
No flesh or skin, just bones in a heap,
A solemn soul, eternal secrets to keep.

Within the sack, a history lies,
Of ancient days and starlit skies,
Once a...

Good Man's Virtues

To be a good man, one must rise above,
Embody virtues that sparkle and glow.
In strength and kindness, he'll show his love,
A beacon of light, as life's tides ebb and flow.

He bears compassion, a heart that's wide,
Empathy woven into his very...

Complex Self-Identity Journey

In realms of thought where shadows dance,
The self, a tapestry of circumstance,
Threads of past and present weave,
A complex pattern, hard to conceive.

Identity, a chameleon's hue,
Shifting shades, a journey true,
A puzzle formed of joys and...

This poem speaks to a woman in the sense that even though we are strong and resilient we still want and need good strong men in our lives to show us that it's ok to let our guard down sometimes and that we can trust and rely on this person, and they will not let us down and be our source of strength.
