Affirmation

Tammie Swinehart 1974 (Mooresville, IN)

In the depths of self-discovery's embrace,
A journey unfolds, seeking inner grace,
Amidst the doubts that may arise,
A beacon shines, where love never dies.

Affirmation, a gentle balm for the soul,
A mirror reflecting the heart's true goal,
In words that echo, soft and clear,
A reminder that you are cherished, my dear.

When shadows linger, casting doubt,
Affirmation lifts the spirit's clout,
A whispered promise, a tender plea,
To believe in yourself, wholly and free.

In every stumble, and every flight,
Through darkest hours, and mornings bright,
Affirmation guides you through,
To trust your worth, to know it's true.

Amidst the chaos, when winds blow strong,
Affirmation sings a soothing song,
"I am worthy, I am strong,
In my heart, I truly belong."

With each word spoken, you stand tall,
Embracing the journey, embracing all,
For in the essence of affirmation's might,
You find the courage to shine your light.

So, let the gentle whispers start,
Within your soul, within your heart,
Affirmation's power, forever to hold,
A love for yourself, a love so bold.

About this poem

The idea from this poem came from a NordicTrack bike workout I was doing. You work on or off the bike, so this was an off the bike workout. 30 minutes of CORE and lower body exercise in which the WHOLE time the trainer kept talking over and over and affirmation. Love yourself, don't let other people be mean to you, be happy. She talked about her life and how she was over-weight and didn't have self-love. The whole time with this quiver in her voice. And not that I am against all of that, and I hate that anyone was bullied or made to feel like they were not good enough. But I just want to work out. At least stop talking during the actual workout and only speak on breaks. But that didn't happen. So, she talks about affirmations throughout the entire workout and at one point, I just zoned out. Not even sure if I did all exercises. I may not have gotten my six pack abs, but I did get a pretty good poem out of it.

Tammie Swinehart

Not much to say. I live in a small town in Indianapolis and work full-time as a manager for an insurance company. I have written poems going back to grade school. They were all horrible, but fun and passed the time. I have journals of poems that go back 40 years. So now that I have more free time, I dig them out, clean them up while preserving the original thought and meaning behind them. more…
