MOTHERHOOD

I pushed to birth her,
But really, I was born,
I brought life to the world,
But really, she found me.

From the first heartbeat,
I knew it meant change,
From the first feel of her,
I embraced change.

It's not just change,
Like caterpillar to butterfly,
It's transformation,
Like in all ways saved my life.

Immediately, I knew her,
Like a lifelong friend,
I knew meaning to each cry,
And the ways to her smile.

She needed my heart lighter,
So I cast my burdens away,
She needed my aura clean,
So I forgave, let go, and let in.

As I embraced her,
I made life promises,
I'll learn, unlearn, relearn,
I'll love you, warmly and fiercely.

Warm like a cozy blanket,
Immersed in love, hugs, and kisses,
Fierce like a lioness with cabs,
Ready to fight, protect, and narture.

That and more, I'll always be,
For the world could be cruel,
But you got mommy, and her prayers ,
So fly higher than she ever could.
