When Absolutely Nothing is an Improvement

Adam Roy Carrigan 1985 (Winnipeg, MB)

I know you feel this
This devastation you have caused
Your actions of uncaring still linger
But one day the memory of you will be gone

You're a terrible person, you know it's true
You were the biggest imposter of all
Sadly, your unkindness has made me stronger
And we know you'll always be the same you

It's not the money spent I'll miss the most,
As I'll simply just make more
It's the time wasted I'll never get back
And that's the thing that stings most of all

Goodbye you good for nothing worthless child
Not only are you weak, but you're a coward as well
I found something to replace your hold
And that thing was absolutely nothing at all

About this poem

This is about a woman who for the better part of two years played with mind and drained my bank account - who constantly made me feel like crap and barely thanked me for anything despite paying her rent and groceries for over a year. She's the closest thing to a Succubus there is. The only things she gave me were grief and pain.

I write poetry and it is often terrible. The poetry I wrote previously was so terrible I decided to take a ten year break. However, it seems the decade I decided to do everything but write poetry has seemingly increased my ability to write half-decent poetry. Life is weird. more…
