'My Unfinished Song'

I hope those I love, don't get this all wrong
I've written many stanzas to my unfinished song
But all of a sudden; everything turned around
My soul is still speaking, but I don't hear it's sound.

My guitar sits un-dusted, my notepads untouched
My keyboard's outdated, my voice turned to rust.
Another sun rises but not really for me..
I wish I had found that one perfect key...

To open my heart and my soul and my mind..
All flowing together, at the very same time.
Maybe there's still time to turn this around;
And the next time my soul speaks; I will hear its sound.

About this poem

I think poets all enter into periods of depression occasionally, and that seems to be where I've been stuck for a few months. The good news is...I think I'm emerging :)

Sometimes the words flow like a murder of crows. They've held my secrets for the past 65-years. And sometimes they repeat them back to me, and laugh. more…

    Ah, I should have known! The excellent structure, and the subtle yet poignant tone. I always admire your discipline and control when it comes to structuring your poems, it adds a consistency that ensures a clarity of meaning for every one of your poems. I noted this as one of my favorites this month because I could see the restraint that went into composing its tight presentation, compared to a lot of the longer entries this month. Excellent.

    I always learn a lot from reading your entries Robin, cheers and keep writing!

      I very much appreciate your kind words Je woo. I'm almost embarrassed about how one-dimensional it appears in comparison to your entry. This month the bar was raised quite a bit for those of us who love entering this contest. I just need to get back into the 'groove' :). Thanks again!

    I enjoyed its simpicity and cadence, telling a complete story of frustration that I can relate to in relatively few lines.
