Precious Are The Pets Kept

After death.
More precious are the pets kept.

People who live to invest,
Money to have and things purchased.
For the purpose to impress.
Spend most of their lives lived,
Ultimately.
Caring less about other human beings.
As seen to observe and witness this.
On a daily basis.

In sickness and in health,
It's all about the money.

Aging comes knocking.
By many slowly to open their home doors.
Until they can't do this by themselves,
Anymore.
To then be sent.
Whether or not to give consent.
But convinced by their own children.
Other relatives and pretentious friends.
It would be better for the one aging,
To experience living in a convalescent home.
Where needs would be monitored.
By caring and professional,
Medical personnels to have obtained...
Certifiable and reliable,
Earned college degrees.
And this to be done to do is agreed upon.
By doctors, relatives and gossiping friends.
Opinionated and curious,
When life for one aging...
Can be anticipated to end.

There are many people subjected to exist,
In convalescent homes.
Alone wishing for a call.
As if permission is awaited for it given to give.
To hear creative excuses made.
Or at least a welcomed visit.
Wanted yet not to get.

And routine becomes the activity.
From bed to a window.
For the rest of their lives.
Hoping to recognize someone coming.
To pay a visit by surprise.

Yet...
When medical professionals,
Know death is near to come to announce.
Faces once to have known as children.
Children now grown.
Begin to show up in droves shown,
Looking their best and dressed...
From head to toe wearing impressive clothes.
To observe and witness for themselves.
Just how close,
That moment of death...
They can expect with eyes closed in prayer.
Hoping their names appear,
In a WILL left behind somewhere.

So true is the reality,
Of selfish thoughtless greed taught to teach.

That moment comes to go and pass.
Leaving the 'spectators' speculating.
Who gets what and just how fast.

But...
Not one is mentioned in a WILL left to leave.
Everything possessed to have been,
Valued to own.
With time and impressions made invested.
Results for some unexpected grief.
To hear a lawyer begin to read.
All left to a neighbor.
A couple of dogs and cats.
Named as precious pets kept.
Known only by a neighbor.
Who secretly knew all about that.

And...
Given legal authority to hire an assessor too.
With further unlimited expenses.
To ensure the needs of the pets.
Including grooming.
When that neighbor decided,
It was time to take a monthly cruise.
Anywhere, anytime without explsnation.
Doing this without feeling a bit of guilt.
Since the neighbor had been the only one,
To visit, chit chat and expressed concern.
About the dogs and cats.
Doing their 'business'.
Near prize Roses during Spring to bloom.
And no one else knew that.
Not even weeping relatives keeping distance.
Or pretentious close gossiping friends.
Coming to knock on that neighbor's door.
No one knew or ever met before.
Just to ask,
From that unknown...
Never before to have met neighbor.
Whenever they needed...
To have their grass mowed,
Call and it will be done at anytime.
Rain or Sunshine.
Winter blizzard, Hurricane!
Or threats to warn,
Of an approaching Tornado.

Money to worship and have it fast,
Had quick to pocket stashed.
Can turn a thoughtless mind,
Into a predictable feast feeding to wsh it,
Human being.
