Proactive And Determined Destination

Lawrence S. Pertillar 1947 (Connecticut)

I have often wondered,
Why truth to avoid it...
Is not a preferred and chosen route to follow?
Or prioritized to plan,
As a sought destination.
Wouldn't taking this direction,
Clear the road to understanding?
And eliminate the nonsense of arguments.
Heated into pointless debates?

What direction taken,
Would smoothen and pave the way...
To common sense made.
With everyone to accept reality for what it is!?
I often wonder this.
Without someone demanding credit,
They and no one else...
Had been awakened long enough,
To convince others too stuporfied...
And hungover to shut up and ride.

Since the one with opened eyes,
Being criticized.
Is also not one,
Intoxicated to believe...
A repeating to take the wrong exit.
Has and will not achieve,
That destination sought and wanted.
Everyone claims they seek to reach.
Yet not know where they are,
To achieve that success.
Drugged with self importance,
Has left many overdosed to excess.

'Shut up! Just shut up! Close your eyes.
And go back to sleep.
You kids are getting on my last nerve.'

'Kids? We're not kids.
And besides...
No one has said anything.'

'I know that.
I'm being proactive.
And...
When we finally get to where we are going?
Guess what?
You all can continue,
To argue amongst yourselves...
About decisions you could have made,
But didn't.'

'OH?
And where will you be?'

'Noticeably away from you.
Enjoying my much needed rest.
And neglected peace of mind.'

'So...
What does that mean?
What are you implying?'

'Implying?
That's for me to know.
Done to hopefully one day,
You will discover to find out...
What peace of mind to have it means.
To keep, protect and defend.
Regardless of the circumstances,
One is made to be put in!'

'Aren't you the sensitive touchy one.'

'Whatever.
Sticks and stones may break my bones.
But my peace of mind?
Will not be an argument,
With me you will find!
Put that in your pipe and smoke it!'

'Geeessshhh.
Now you tell me!
I left it at home.'
