I Never Knew

I Never Knew
By Nancy Rodriquez

I never knew loving you would be this costly,
for every tear falling down my face,
You remained on my mind often,
and with each new day, I have had to take,
knowing I would not have you by my side,
I never knew your leaving would take its toll,
I should not miss you as I do, and I question why,
this feeling stays with me as the day is old,
As time goes by, it gets easier to dust myself off,
and if I never love again it will not matter to me,
I can find inner peace, it is not a bother at all,
I never knew my resistance could endure, it has set me free,
and the pain of losing you slowly slips away,
if you have passed on to eternity,
You can never hurt another person as you have me,
and I never knew freedom could be this good.
