My Sister

My home was broken before I was born,
The fabric of my family was already torn.
My nine-year-old sister took me into her heart,
A beautiful gift right from my start.
She couldn’t shelter me from the storms of life,
And I know that cuts her just like a knife.
Burdens too great for a child to bear,
But I have always felt her loving care,
I want to say thank you for her brave little fight,
I want her to know how much she did right.
I want her to know how thankful I’ve been,
I want her to know it did not go unseen,
I loved her then and I love her still,
Thank-you Karen.
